Hi, I’m Caroline!

My Story

I have always been a naturally curious and creative person. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to grow up in a household where the arts, creativity, and self-expression were strongly emphasized and valued. My desire to learn and create only grew when I was gifted a sewing machine for my 8th birthday.

The very first creation I made with my sewing machine: a pillow case!

My love of the arts and self-expression eventually led me to the world of theatre. Though I started off as a performer, my passion for sewing soon led me to construct and design costumes for my high school theatre troupe, Theatre on the James (Virginia Thespian Troupe #5953). By the time I reached my senior year, I had the privilege of serving as the Troupe #5953 president, holding a leadership role on the debate team, and working as the Anything Goes Show Choir’s in-house stage manager.

Through the connections I made while holding various leadership positions, I had the opportunity to meet and work with Maura Varley of Maura Varley Photography and Fluffy Feet Photography. This led to an invitation to join Maura’s senior team, where I modeled and helped plan photoshoots. One of my photos from a Saturday Night Live–themed shoot was featured on the Inspiring Teens Magazine Instagram under both “Inspiring Teens’ Top Teen Photographers” and “Teens Who Rock the Shot.”

I also interned for Maura Varley Photography as a lighting and production assistant, supporting her during senior photoshoots throughout the Richmond, VA area. My time working alongside Maura not only sparked my interest in digital media but also gave me hands-on experience in photography, photo editing, lighting, and client interaction. These early experiences played a significant role in shaping the creative path I’m on today.

Today, I attend the beautiful James Madison University (Go Dukes!) where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts & Design (SMAD) with a concentration in Creative Advertising. This concentration allows me to focus on what I’m most passionate about: content creation, digital and social media marketing, branding, graphic design, photography, and videography, while also giving me the opportunity to explore other areas of SMAD such as web design, UX/UI, videography, journalism, and so much more! I also am on track to receive two minors in Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication and British Communication & Media.

During my time at JMU, I’ve made it a priority to get involved and stay connected with the campus community. In Fall 2024, I was initiated as a sister of Alpha Sigma Tau (Psi Chapter), and throughout 2025, I served as an active member of both the Marketing and Banner Committees. Due to this involvement, I was recently selected to serve as our chapter’s 2026 Director of Visual Identity; a role where I’ll get to combine leadership with my love for branding and design!

This past summer, I also had the incredible opportunity to study abroad through JMU’s Semester in London program. I spent two months living in Central London, studying film, theatre, media arts, and multicultural studies; all while exploring one of the world’s most influential cities.

Both of these experiences have allowed me to grow professionally, strengthen my leadership abilities, and deepen my understanding of visual communication through hands-on opportunities to collaborate, create, and connect with new communities. The skills I’ve gained continue to shape the way I approach every new project.
